Mother’s Day is about celebrating our sacrifices as mothers. My mom is one of my biggest supporters, and as a mom, I do the same for my kids.

My husband used to joke that I wasn’t his mother, so he didn’t owe me a Mother’s Day celebration. But he always made sure it was a special day for me, recognizing the day-to-day things I do to keep the family going.

Because it’s all about perspective, how you process and digest information can make all the difference in your circle of people.

I need to carry that perspective into everything I do.

  • Listening actively: I consciously try to hear someone’s concerns. This helps me understand their perspective.
  • Offering help without pressure: Sometimes, people need a helping hand, but other times they need to vent. I gauge the situation and respect their boundaries.
  • Connecting people with shared goals: I love seeing what happens when the right people are brought together.
  • Celebrating others: Celebrating the good things my friends and colleagues do is important so they know I care and love them.
  • Allowing for vulnerability: Sometimes, the one thing we need to do for others is give them a safe space to be vulnerable. Life is hard when you are always hiding.

This Mother’s Day, gifts aren’t always wrapped with pretty bows. It’s the gifts that we can’t always see, like understanding, support, and connection, that show others how much we care and value them.

They say life begins at 40, but I’m proof it gets even better at 60—because thriving doesn’t have an age limit, and neither does dreaming big.
