The Appeal of Location Independence

Understanding the freedom of a location-independent business.

Living a location-independent life is something that confuses many people. Unlike remote working or digital nomads, it has a different style.

Remote working often refers to performing a job outside the traditional office environment. A digital nomad utilizes digital technologies to work remotely from various locations, frequently traveling to different places.

Location independence is a hybrid of the two: having the ability to work and live from anywhere without borders or parameters.

My buddy travels to Florida for 5-weeks in the winter. She also works for a corporation that allows her to operate remotely. However, her company requires her to be hard-wired and follow her traditional weekly work schedule. That’s remote working.

A business colleague lives in South America and will soon move on to Europe and then Spain, with the possibility of Italy, too. She lives in short-term rentals, hostels, hotels, and sometimes with friends. She is the definition of a digital nomad.

I own a house outside Pittsburgh, PA, but I also have many other workspaces.
