Speed Listening — I’m Not Alone

Why normal-speed videos feel like torture

When you have ADHD, you often work from a space of difference because you need to make things work for you.

  • Remember to follow through with tasks.
  • Being easily bored.
  • Finding it hard to listen to others.
  • Sitting still in a quiet space.
  • Acting without thinking.
  • Focusing and prioritizing.

And the list goes on and on.

When it comes to learning, I need to ensure no distractions, especially when the information is a talking head or text presentation.

I listen to audio or video at normal speed very little, and on most videos, I use closed captions to allow me to do more than only listen.

And I thought it was only me — until I was perusing X (or Twitter), and the post asked what speed you listen to the videos.

Very few of the 100+ responses were normal speed.

This leads me to believe that we all speak super slow on video/audio or that I am in a popular crowd regarding video playback.

Is it just me, or does everyone sometimes feel like they need a 2x speed button for real-life conversations?

They say life begins at 40, but I’m proof it gets even better at 60—because thriving doesn’t have an age limit, and neither does dreaming big.
