Today is going to be a bit different. Usually, my day consists of optimism and focusing on the good things.

Yesterday, we received some devastating news. Sorry for the vagueness, but today is not a day to share that. Today is the day to process and move forward.

I revived my newsletter a few weeks ago, and some colleagues joined the list. I had a message scheduled with a link to one of my stories here. The link did not work (yes, I forgot to test it). In my inbox, a friend told me he enjoyed the information sans the 404 link.

Usually, I would get right about fixing it and obsess over why it wasn’t perfect. Not today.

Today, I thanked him for pointing it out and returned to baking (a first love). Today is not a day to spend growing my business, worrying about my clients, or trying to tick things off the to-do list. Today is the day to let the team handle stuff — and bake.

So often, we try to be “perfect,” so no one on the interwebs can see our flaws. Not today, for me.

Tomorrow, I can resume wearing my bliss blinders and return to spreading joy and positivity. I can go back to taking care of everyone. I can be perfect again on the web.

Today I’m going to embrace the shitiness of the day — and bake.

They say life begins at 40, but I’m proof it gets even better at 60—because thriving doesn’t have an age limit, and neither does dreaming big.
