Embarking on anything new hinges on research and planning — something I learned firsthand.

We recently bought a boat. It had an inboard motor and was more of a pleasure craft than a fishing boat. It didn’t work for us — we needed something between fishing and pleasure. Off to work I went.

I dig deep to find what works, gathering information to outline needs and a plan to get there.

Whether that’s picking out the perfect boat, plotting a web course, or tackling a new platform like Medium, it’s all about sticking to a game plan that’s tried, tested, and accurate.

Here’s the thing: The best shortcuts often come from just listening to those who’ve been there and done that. Read their books, check out their blogs, or binge-watch their tutorials.

Whether signing up for a newsletter or joining a full-blown course, a goldmine of insights is waiting for you.

Aim to learn from folks a couple of steps ahead or even those who’ve already crossed the finish line. There’s as much to learn from the journey as the destination.
